Blog week ending 24th February

Our recent Open Mic event was an amazing showcase of talent, confidence and self-expression!  Miss Ryan was blown away by each and every heart-felt performance, commenting “it was brilliant to see students from across the year groups playing such an active role in a creative event” she added, “we’ve really missed not being able to stage social events for our students - and they really embraced the opportunity!”  We drew a large audience of fellow students, staff and governors who were so supportive of every single performer, cheering, clapping and boosting the confidence for all of our performers.

I’ve got no doubt that when we move into our new building with its purpose built performing arts studio and practice rooms .. our Open Mic Events will grow and develop even further.

Thank you to all student performers, audience members and cheerleaders, for such an uplifting event.

G12We marked The International Day of Women and Girls in Science with a presentation and discussion highlighting the significant contribution to the sector from women.  Miss Cogswell, Teacher of Science and Computer Science delivered the session to her Year 7 students and understands only too well the importance and value of seeing female role models to provide inspiration to enter into a scientific career.

Peer Mentoring workshops – Our SEN Department have been working with Student Leaders to provide them with the skills to provide meaningful Peer Mentoring sessions to younger students.  Our Peer Mentors provide a valuable and relatable contact for students, and are able to guide and support them based on their own experience.  In the below photo Millie is supporting a student to help ease the transition between primary and secondary school.

Our football teams continue to go from strength to strength putting in sterling performances against tough opposition!  Our Year 8 team (pictured below) beat Northfleet Technology College 7-1 in the Dartford District League Cup.  Our Year 7 drew 2-2 against Northfleet Technology College – Well done to all players!

Miss Deacon’s Year 9 Scientists have just started their study of the digestive system.  As an introduction task, students created diagrams of the human body with particular emphasis on key parts of the digestive system based on their current knowledge of organ function and anatomy.  House Points were awarded to the group that correctly identified and labelled the most!  Well done class!
